Fall Candle Care Tips: Make Your Candles Last Longer

Fall is candle season. The evenings get cooler, the blankets come out, and nothing makes a home feel cozier than a candle glowing on the table. Here is how we care for our own candles so they burn beautifully all season long.

1. Trim the wick every time

Before each light, trim the wick to about a quarter inch. A long wick makes a tall, smoky flame that burns through your wax too fast. A short wick gives you a calm, steady glow and a much longer life.

2. The first burn matters most

Let your candle melt all the way to the edge the very first time you light it. Soy wax has a memory, and if you blow it out too early, it will tunnel down the middle on every burn after. Give it two to three hours that first time and it will reward you.

3. Keep them away from drafts

We love a fresh fall breeze, but your candle does not. Drafts from open windows or vents make the flame flicker and burn unevenly, and can leave soot on the jar. A still corner is a happy corner.

4. Store them with care

Keep unlit candles in a cool, dark spot away from direct sun. Heat and sunlight can fade colors and soften the wax. A drawer or a shaded shelf is perfect.

5. Know when to say goodbye

When about half an inch of wax is left, it is time to retire the candle. Burning past that point can overheat the container. Rinse the jar with warm soapy water and reuse it for cotton pads, matches, or little treasures.

6. Lean into the season

Fall is the perfect excuse to try warmer scents. Pumpkin, vanilla, cinnamon, and amber make a home feel instantly cozy. Our fall collection is poured in small batches, so each one feels a little special.

Take good care of your candles and they will take good care of your evenings. Happy fall from all of us at Moonlight.
